Free Lot 5 is an installation created by Angelica Agostini, Daniel Brigham and Jaclyn Heyen.  During the spring semester every year Florida International University’s lot 5 is closed due to the Youth Fair.  As with any university campus there is not enough parking for the enrollment of the university so with the loss of Lot 5 made a difficult parking situation worse.  Lot 5 happens to be the lot next to the School of Music so this installation created the perfect way to protest the loss of parking.

Faculty, students and staff were interviewed about their thoughts and feelings of the parking situation during the fair.  Video was captured of the fair, the traffic and the parking.  Both forms of media were then used within the installation.

Contact mics and condenser microphones were used to pick up the sounds and vibrations of a parking garage on two separate floors.  The contact mics were used to manipulate the pre-recorded interviews and the video.  When watching the video one may see cartoon like images.
With a screen and speakers set up on the bottom floor of the parking garage we had a range of people stopping by to view and listen.
